Kawika David Tipoki bridges two powerful Pacific traditions, weaving together the vibrant melodies of Hawaiian music with the deep cultural roots of his Maori ancestry. His artistry creates an authentic musical experience that speaks to the heart of Polynesian storytelling.

Working alongside master Hawaiian hula choreographer Atete Panui, Kawika has developed performances that honor indigenous heritage while captivating diverse audiences. Their collaboration celebrates the shared bonds between Pacific Island cultures and First Nations peoples worldwide, united through the ancient art of storytelling through music and dance.

Yayoi Morris enhances the ensemble with her seven years of experience in Atete’s Hawaiian dance company, bringing sophisticated percussion skills that complement the group’s distinctive sound. Her rhythmic artistry adds depth and authenticity to every performance.

Kawika’s 3-6 piece ensemble delivers an energetic fusion of traditional Hawaiian sounds with contemporary influences. The music spans from classic ukulele melodies and tropical island rhythms to congo beats and modern arrangements. As lead guitarist and vocalist, Kawika draws from his extensive repertoire of beloved Hawaiian standards while infusing each song with the distinctive vocal quality that reflects his Maori heritage.

Atete Panui’s graceful hula dancing adds visual poetry to the musical experience, embodying the true aloha spirit that defines their performances. Together, they create a unique blend of reggae, rock, and traditional Pacific sounds that celebrates indigenous culture while embracing contemporary musical expression.
